FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BREVARD HUMANE SOCIETY SHINES A LIGHT ON ORPHAN PETS WITH CANDLE-LIGHTING CEREMONY

The Brevard Humane Society is uniting with animal-lovers and animal welfare organizations across the globe by participating in a Remember Me Thursday® candle-lighting ceremony.  Now celebrating its sixth year, Remember Me Thursday® aims to unify individuals and pet adoption organizations on the fourth Thursday in September to become an unstoppable, integrated voice advocating for orphan pets to live in forever homes, not die waiting for them.  Sadly, between three and four million pets will lose their lives in U.S. shelters each year despite every effort to find them a loving, adoptable home. Worse yet, of those, only 30% will be adopted from local shelters.

The Brevard Humane Society invites the community to be a part of the movement on Thursday, September 27th, at 7pm for this very special Remember Me Thursday® candle-lighting ceremony being held at its Heavenly Paws Chapel located at 1020 Cox Road in Cocoa. In addition, and in honor of Remember Me Thursday®, the Brevard Humane Society announced that adoption fees will be reduced for any pet who has waited 6+ months for a loving home. The adoption special will be valid for one day only, Thursday September 27, with the sole purpose of finding a loving forever home for as many pets as possible.

“Unfortunately, we encounter so many wonderful pets that are abandoned simply because their owners had to move or didn’t quite understand the time and care that a pet requires. Remember Me Thursday® hopes to remember those pets and to “shine a light” on those who are still waiting for their forever homes and we can help save,” said Theresa Clifton, Executive Director for the Brevard Humane Society. We hope this adoption special will motivate local residents to join our efforts to save as many deserving lives as possible.”

Since its inception in 2013, Remember Me Thursday® has grown to include 180 countries, over 500 distinct animal welfare organizations, and thousands of individuals holding candle-lighting ceremonies of their own, spreading the message on social media, and/or lighting a virtual candle to illuminate the cause for animals in need of forever homes. Individuals are encouraged to get the entire world talking by tweeting, tagging, posting and sharing the beauty and life-saving significance of pet adoption on social media using #RememberMeThursday; adding their rescue pet photo to the #RememberMeThursday Photo Wall for a chance to win funds, food, and toys for a shelter or rescue close to their hearts; and most importantly by always adopting and encouraging friends and family to do the same.
