Youth Programs

The Brevard Humane Society offers a variety of programs designed to increase empathy toward animals. Our programs are designed to help fulfill Florida Statute 233.061 which requires Florida schools to teach kindness to animals as part of their curriculum. We believe this is the most effective way to teach our children respect for all life and the prevention of cruelty not only to animals but also to humans.

The Brevard Humane Society also offers customized presentations upon request. These tailored programs address a variety of topics affecting our community from pet overpopulation to pet friendly housing, animal cruelty, and more.

For more information, regarding any of our youth related programs please email our Volunteer Coordinator or call 321.636.3343 ext. 207.

Precious Paws Storytime

Serving grades one through eight, our Precious Paws Storytime Program allows children to visit our Adoption Centers along with their parent/guardian to read to our adoptable cats or dogs. This program is open year round to all children, with or without a learning disability, as well as children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger Syndrome.

This program is beneficial for both the children, by fostering confidence and reading skills, and the animals, by providing a soothing and rhythmic sound of a human voice which comforts them.

Student Project Requests

We often receive requests from students regarding our services and animal related issues. With adequate advance notice, we may be able to offer students up to 30 minutes with one of our staff members to help gather information needed for a classroom project. This may be accomplished via phone, email, or in person.

School Field Trips

We offer both offsite programs and onsite tours free of charge for grades Kindergarten through 12th Grade. A visit to our facility can be an incredibly fun and educational experience for your class field trip! Tours are about 30 – 40 minutes, are appropriate for up to 30 participants, and consist of a tour and meeting a few of our animals.
