FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BREVARD HUMANE SOCIETY’S INAUGURAL 5K IS A “MUTT-ATTEND” EVENT

Don’t miss the opportunity to have a ball while making a difference in the lives of homeless pets! Grab your tennis shoes (and a leash) because on Saturday, March 31st, at 7:30am the Avenue Viera will go to the dogs! At the inaugural “Mutt Strut 5K”, dogs and the people who love them will run in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the Brevard Humane Society, a non-profit organization whose vision is to ensure Brevard County homeless animals are treated with dignity and respect while living free from cruelty, harm, and neglect.

“I am so excited to host this event as it brings avid runners and dog lovers together to one event!” said Kimberly Newton, chair for the Brevard Humane Society’s board of directors, “My hope is that we will raise funds to help the Brevard Humane Society promote the welfare of companion animals in our community along with getting a few animals adopted.”

Participants may run/walk the scenic “Mutt Strut 5K”, trot lightly with the “Doggie Dash” 1 Miler, or partake in the ultimate competition of the “Double Dog Dare” Challenge! The 5K starts and finishes in front of the Sports Authority located at 6729 Colonnade Ave Melbourne, FL in the Avenue Viera.

The “Mutt Strut” is a family-friendly, group-friendly, and dog-friendly event! However, for the safety of all participants, pets must be current on all vaccinations, be in good health, and MUST be kept on a leash. Don’t have a mutt to strut? Feel free to “lease” an on-site adoptable dog from the Brevard Humane Society the day of the event to make a new friend for the day or for life!

Registration is now open and those registered by March 15, 2018 will receive an official race t-shirt. Discounted pre-registration is available until March 30th and prizes will be awarded for the top individuals including a special challenge medal for ALL “Double Dog Dare” Finishers. Participants may register individually or as a team in an effort to raise funds for the homeless animals of the Brevard Humane Society.
