FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
#GIVINGTUESDAY GIVES THE GIFT OF HOPE TO THE BREVARD HUMANE SOCIETY
The Brevard Humane Society will celebrate its second year of participation in #GivingTuesday, a global giving campaign that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. This year monetary donations to the Brevard Humane Society will assist with the procurement of surgical lights vital to their spay/neuter program which also aids low-income pet owners. In 2017, nearly 3,000 animals benefitted from this life-saving initiative.
“As we prepare for November 27, we are inspired by the level of generosity in our community,” said Theresa Clifton, Executive Director of the Brevard Humane Society. “Last year, volunteers provided more than 26,850 hours of service to the Brevard Humane Society. #GivingTuesday is a powerful reminder that giving is a shared value that unites us and how much we can truly accomplish when we focus on the everyday acts of compassion that bring us closer together.”
Founded in 2012 in response to the hyper-consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday inspires millions to support the causes they believe in. Held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday kicks off the giving season by encouraging people to improve their communities through impactful and meaningful acts of generosity. To date, over $300 million has been raised through #GivingTuesday online campaigns benefitting a vast array of organizations, and even more has been given in terms of volunteer hours, food / clothing donations, and random acts of kindness.
