FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aloha to all Beach Boys, Bums and Bunnies! 2020 is the year to cheer! The Brevard Humane Society is partnering with Beachside Media for the 56th Annual Easter Surf Contest and the 7th Annual East Coast Dog Surfing Championship! Hosted annually during Easter weekend, this event brings in surf fans and pet lovers for two days of tail wagging entertainment. This year, look for bigger and better surprises, aside from dogs on the beach, dog surfing lessons, and the Dog Surfing Championships.
“We are excited to see the event grow, as it enhances the animal-companion bond,” said Theresa Clifton, Executive Director of the Brevard Humane Society. This year, the Brevard Humane Society will be acknowledging the passing of Surf Pig during the morning paddle out. Surf Pig, a three-legged female Jack Russell Terrier from Cocoa Beach, passed away over the summer. She was the reigning East Coast Dog Surfing Champion for the past two years and won Overall Best Dog at last year’s competition. “We were saddened by the news of Surf Pig’s passing, as she was a crowd pleaser and will be missed at this event,” explained Clifton.
Grab your wetsuits, shortboards (or longboards), and prepare to bring the heat on some gnarly waves! Hopefully we won’t see any wipeouts, but some perfect 10’s instead! The competition is open to amateurs and pros alike! For $5, your dog can hang on the beach with you! For more information visit www.brevardhumanesociety.org.
